Mary's Yes

I was watching EWTN last night and came across the Woman of Grace show and they were talking about what our Blessed Mother has meant to them which got me thinking... what does she mean to me?  I tear up just thinking about her and her special role in the life, passion, death and resurrection of Jesus.
Mary's complete trust and obedience in God is amazing.  When the angel Gabriel came to her and said  "Hail, O favored one, the Lord is with you!" But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and considered in her mind what sort of greeting this might be.  And the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.  And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus.  He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David,  and he will reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there will be no end."  And Mary said to the angel, "How shall this be, since I have no husband?"  And the angel said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God.

And Mary said, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word."

She in the ultimate believer in God the Father, God the Son and the Holy Spirit.

She bore Jesus, raised Him, and then watched His passion and death.  This whole time she was doing God's will.

So, back to my original question... what does she mean for me?

*The luckiest woman of all time to have raised the Son of God.
*The unluckiest woman of all time to have to watch His passion and death.
*The perfect role model in how I'm to lead my life.
*Grateful for her unceasingly efforts in following the will of God.
*The perfect model of courage and obedience.
*Someone I need to know better.

  1. Hi Noreen,

I'm also studying Mary our Blessed Mother, to understand her role in my life. I am touched by her complete trust in God, even when she had some apprehension when the angel Gabriel was talking to her. Her devotion to God and obedience are wonderful examples for us to follow.

I also wanted to thank you for visiting my blog. My story about my return to the Catholic Church is located under the Facebook window. (The "One Thing I Learned At Mass" widget) It is loooong, so if you do read it, you probably will take it in bite-sized pieces, lol! I'm including the story in the book I'm *still* writing. Someday it may be published!

Blessings to you and I wish you a very spiritually rich Lenten season. :-)

  2. Hi Noreen! What a lovely post! I too have marvelled at the wonder of Our Lady's role in Salvation history, but moreso in my own little life! Thanks for this! A friend and I have been delving into the mystery of femininity in Catholicism...check out my other blog if you're interested...www.thefemininegift.blogspot.com.

Thanks also for your comments on my blog - SO excellent to "meet" you!
