Happy Birthday to our Catholic Church

Last night at mass our priest said these words "Happy Birthday to our church" for this is the day when the apostles received the gift of the Holy Spirit.

"But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you."  John 14:26

"When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.  Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.  They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.  All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.  "  Acts 2:1-4

"The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control."  Galatians 5:22

Please join me today at RAnn's Sunday Snippets-A Catholic Carnival to meet other Catholic Bloggers to celebrate our faith!

God Bless,
Noreen

  1. We usually wear red to celebrate Pentecost since red is the liturgical color for this special day. But my husband was the only one who happened to wear red today at Mass since I forgot after being on vacation! Anyway, this is such a blessed day in our Church! We are blessed with the gift of the Holy Spirit in our churches and souls! Thanks for sharing this beautiful post on NOBH!

  2. Happy Pentecost, Noreen. Happy Birthday of the Church. Here, it is Monday so we celebrated yesterday. Actually, it is a public holiday in Australia today: to celebrate the Queen's Birthday. So we have another day to relax with our family.

Yesterday, the girls made a 'tongues of fire' cake after seeing a great Pentecost post on the Sweetness and Light blog.

I just think of the Holy Spirit transforming us all, working miracles: a great gift!

May God bless you on this special day.
