Yours Is The Church Book Review

Source
I was given the opportunity to review Yours Is The Church: How Catholicism Shapes Our World by Mike Aquilina.   I was grabbed immediately by the title and wanted to know how our Church impacted civilization since the beginning of its inception.  I'd heard about the monks establishing educational institutions and nuns organizing hospitals but it was an incomplete picture.  This book assists in completing the picture for a better understanding on it's impact. It is outlined in eleven chapters with each detailing the role the Catholic Church has contributed to areas such as civilization, science, charity, music, art, literature, women, children, human dignity, world peace and our future. After reading Mr. Aquilina's book, I wish that every Catholic knew it's history!  In fact, I'm thinking of suggesting to one of my parish priests that this is a must read for his youth group.  They're mostly teenagers and should know this history of our church.

He concludes his book with an extensive biography list for further reading if so desired.  Mr. Aquilina's book is an easy read where I found myself repeatedly thinking, "I didn't know that.  I didn't know that either."   Very enlightening on the consistency of our church holding to the Gospel.  Not wavering when confronted with opposition.  It's not a perfect church, but it is not the enemy of science, society and especially women!  You'd think so if you listened to the media that the Catholic Church is old fashioned and not worthy of the world's attention.   I urge you to read Mr Aquilina's book to learn the impressive role it has played throughout time.  I would definitely recommend this book to teenagers and above.  Young children should be taught this information from those who know.

I received a complimentary copy of Yours Is The Church from The Catholic Company Reviewer Program.  No monetary compensation was given for my honest review.  Visit the Catholic Company for more information on Yours Is The Church.  You can also find the perfect resources on celebrating the Sacraments as well as the Year of Faith resources.
