Can someone please tell me the point of Pinterest?

My lovely friend Anne from Our Gifts of Grace sent me the invitation which I accepted.
Not sure why one must be invited tho?
Shouldn't it be for everyone?
What do I even do with it?
I've received emails saying people are following me.
For what purpose are they following me?
Looks like a complete time waster.
Anyone care to enlighten me?
Blessings,
Noreen
I have only had a chance to investigate pinterest three times since December I think :) I've used it to search party favors or decorations. People use it in many different ways...recipes, crafts, etc. They can find something and pin it to their virtual board thinking "maybe" someday they'd make it, try it, or buy it. Others actually do attempt the things they pin. If people follow you, they will see your ideas that you have pinned. I think that sums it up. As I said, I haven't been on it much to be honest.
ReplyDeleteI'm not even sure how to find my own virtual board. I clicked on the icon from my desktop and it's a whole bunch of stuff. I have no idea who pinned any of it or where to go from there. Guess I need to spend some time figuring it or at the very least, go to Allison's Catholic Pinterest site to be inspired!
DeleteI don't get it either, I think it's just another place to keep virtual junk....clutter for the mind.
ReplyDeleteI do like to look at Catholic Pinterest though for ideas....once in a while. I don't follow or belong though, not sure why or what the benefits of that would be.
That was my first impression to Jamie! But I do like Allison's idea of it being "a virtual bookmark". I've at times, found some really neat crafts or recipes and thought I would recall where I found it... and searched and searched again to no avail. I've learned to bookmark those sites I'd like to return to but perhaps there is more to Pinterest then I thought?
DeleteOops! I think my last comment got lost in the blogosphere! I've never heard of Pinterest, Noreen. Not until now, that is :) I'll check out the link you left. God bless!
ReplyDeleteYou'll have to let me know your thoughts on it Mary. I will definitely check out Allison's "Catholic Pinterest" for ideas of celebrating the liturgical year.
DeleteI use it as a visual bookmark. It's a place for me to catalog lots of varied interests, especially helpful for my homeschooling.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I started a collaborative board there called Catholic Pinterest and we now have over 2000+ readers/followers trying to make a Catholic community of images, words, catechesis and comraderie. For me it de-clutters my mind and archives the Good, the True and the Beautiful. http://pinterest.com/allison_girone/catholic-pinterest/
Allison, you have a good reason to browse around Pinterest and to draw others to yours. I will come and check it out today. To be honest, I don't even know where my board is? I have an icon on my desktop that brings me into the main site, I guess, but from there...I'm lost. Will have to spend time to figure this out now that I have a good reason to!
DeleteNoreen,
ReplyDeleteI've had lots of Pinterest invitations but I've never accepted any of them. From what I've heard it can get a bit addictive and take up a lot of time. Although it's probably very enjoyable, I already spend too much time online so I can't afford to get involved in something else. I am a bit afraid to have a closer look in case I get enticed in! I've seen some of the images of things 'pinned' on friends' blogs and I could be tempted... But I am staying strong and resisting!!
That is a good reason to avoid it Sue... I spend time on the blog-o-sphere and very little on Facebook. To add another interest, would increase the amount of time I'm at the computer.
DeleteVery Pinteresting !!!
ReplyDeleteI wonder what it is?
I'm very careful when people "follow" me. The other day I fell down the stairs and everyone else fell too. There was quite a pile-up at the bottom, I tell you!
God bless.
Haha...very good Victor. I do follow you but will be careful from now on!
