Meme: Patron Saint of ??

Sue of Sue Elvis Writes, tagged me for this saintly meme.

Assuming you are a saint, and your cause has been executed, your miracles confirmed, your date on the calendar established, all that is required is select that of which Holy Mother Church will name you Patron(ess).

For this meme, you must name your patronage and then tag 5 other people who would like to play along. Link your answer to your nominator's post.

Immediately, I thought that I would want to be Patron Saint of the Unborn.  I would want to join the ranks of the wonderful saints who are devoted to the unborn such as, St. Joseph, St. Gerard Majella and St. Padre Pio.  I've had an awakening of sorts this last year when I learned of the abortion clinics in my town.  I've returned numerous times to one of them to pray and make the sign of the cross on the doors with holy water.  This is a disturbing reality in our culture that needs to be reversed.  Much prayer is needed to fight the abortion industry and the lies it promulgates to our young girls.

Then, another idea was placed on my heart and that would be the Patron Saint of Purgatory.  However, I don't know much about it yet have a strong desire to research it.  I was raised with the notion to pray for the holy souls in purgatory and have read a bit about saints who have claimed to have been shown purgatory by Our Lady or Jesus himself.  The thought of my loved ones being there and longing to be in Heaven spurs me on to pray for them.  I recently bought the book, Purgatory: Explained by the Lives and the Legends of the Saints written by Fr. F.X. Shouppe, S.J.

Here's the fun part.  I get to tag 5 of my blogging friends and invite them to participate in the Patron Saint Meme.  I hope they will play along!

  1. Oh, Noreen, I really have to think about this one...Thanks for picking me.

A really good book about purgatory is Get Us Out of Here, can't remember the woman's name....maybe Maria Simms?

You will not be able to put it down and won't look at Purgatory the same way again. And the Poor Souls will be on your mind all the time!

  2. Hi Noreen,
Thank you for thinking of me also and this is something I will definitely have to ponder. A patroness of the unborn would be one of my choices too :) Speaking of abortion clinics, thank you for standing for life and praying at the clinics. I just saw on Abby Johnson's Facebook page about 40 Days for Life coming up again soon. This is something I hope to participate in by going to the clinics. I was wondering if you have read Abby's article about how she worked in the clinics at night and her thoughts while she was at PP and now. I thought I would pass it onto you as it may give you needed encouragement to keep praying and putting on that Holy water. Thank you for your witness. Here's a link to Abby's article:

Also did you see this other article by Abby about Komen Cancer Research supporting PP?

  3. Noreen,
I was predicting you would nominate to be the patron saint of the unborn. Patron saint of Purgatory? That surprised me but it feels so right. I remember that interesting discussion we had here on your blog a few weeks ago, about purgatory.

Thank you for joining in. And may God bless you!

  4. Jamie ~ thank you for the book recommendation. I will have to look into it.

Tracy ~ the unborn can use as many patronesses as possible! Thank you for the link to Abby Johnson's articles. I will definitely read them!

Sue ~ so I surprised you, huh? The Holy Souls of Purgatory have been on my mind more so now then ever before and I'm feeling called to pray for them. Thank you for coming to visit me!

  5. That's a cool exercise! My son's third-grade teacher had the kids each make a poster of themselves as a saint (sort of a giant holy card) and say what they were patron of. He was patron saint of Math. (His sister was horrified.)

  6. Barb ~ that is too funny! His sister must not be a fan of math!! That's a great idea to do with kids though. I will be teaching first grade religious education in a couple of weeks. Perhaps I should ask them to make one of themselves??
