Devotional

My son has started school this week as a 6th grader in a Catholic School.  He'd been going to public school up until this point and we made this decision to avoid the public middle school.

(THE BIG, BAD WORLD OF MIDDLE SCHOOL).

Our son chose the Catholic School too so it seemed an obvious fit.  I know he needs time to adjust, but  these first few days have not gone as well as I'd prayed for.

It's a harder transition for him then he thought AND that we'd thought it would be.

It's hard to watch your child struggle.

It's hard to see him so uncomfortable with his new school.

It's hard to start doubting that sending him to a Catholic School was the wrong choice for him.

My sister sent this devotional to me and I read it yesterday and it was just what I needed.  I've never thought of a type of parental love that can be idolatry.  That could be harmful to my child.  It was a wake up call so, I stayed today for Daily Mass after I dropped him off.

Ok God, my son is Yours.  Please give me the wisdom to guide him through his pain and struggles and learn to trust in You.

  9. I will keep you in prayers. My older kids each started a new school as a 5th grader so I am quite familiar with the challenges that brings at that age. From experience I will tell you that you can expect ups and downs for about a full school year. Hang in there and if you need to vent or ask advice I'm willing to listen.

  10. Trish ~ it came at the right time for me to read it (I love how God works that way!). It's hard to relinquish those fears of "what if" and hand him over to God! How many boys do you have?

Barb ~ I will remember your kind offer! They are still so young at 5th and 6th grades yet they need to mature and meet the expectations of their grades. My son had so much homework this weekend ~ approximately 3 hours worth ~ he'd never had so much before. He did about an hour a day to break it up but it was a reality check!

  11. Hi Noreen :-)
I have 2 sons who are now 24 and 29.
My youngest suffered clinical depression from 17 and attempted to end his life 3 times.
His illness brought me back to to the Catholic church.
The Sacred Heart pulled both of us through that dark time!
    Blessed be God forever!

  12. Thanks for sharing Noreen. Isn't this true with everything we hold on to, including all of our worries? This points out so well that only upon release can we cling to God's hand. Wow, that was powerful. Praying for you and your son that God's will be done and peace be with you.

  13. Oh Trish ~ praise God that He brought your son and you through that dark time back into the light, more refined and molded into who He has called you both to be!

Tiffany ~ it is true that we hold on to our worries and it only leads to division from God.
