St. Patrick's Jello

I found this fun idea to make Shamrock shaped jello snacks on Pininterest and I pursued it at Mommy I'm Hungry!

    

Put the above three ingredients together, use this:

 and you will get this:

Here's a level view showing how the whipped cream rises to the top:

The recipe is simple:
Layered Jello Knox Blocks
from Group Recipes

4 envelopes Knox unflavored gelatin
3 pkgs (3oz) Lime Jello
3 Cups boiling water
1/2 pt whipping cream

In large heatproof bowl mix unflavored gelatin with Jello.
Add boiling water and stir until gelatin is completely dissolved -- about a minute or so.
Stir in whipping cream.
Pour into a 13x9 inch pan, cover and chill until firm, about four hours or overnight.
The cream will rise during chilling to form a top layer.
To serve, cut into squares or rectangles of desired cookie cutter shapes and size for finger food treats. Place each piece between cut wax paper, and keep chilled until serving.

This can be done with any flavor and cookie cutter.  It was a fun and good treat for kids and adults alike!

Immaculate Heart of Mary Novena

O Most Blessed Mother, heart of love, heart of mercy, 
ever listening, caring, consoling, hear our prayer.  
As your children, we implore your intercession with Jesus your Son.  Receive with understanding and compassion the petitions we place before you today, especially (your intention).


We are comforted in knowing your heart is ever open to those who ask for your prayer.  
We trust to your gentle care and intercession, those whom we love and who are sick or lonely or hurting.  
Help all of us, Holy Mother, to bear our burdens in this life until we may share eternal life and peace with God forever.  
Amen.

Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Welcome and please join us in celebrating the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus!  

This feast day is a moveable date in our liturgical calendar but it is always 19 days following Pentecost Sunday ~  which means it falls on Friday, June 15th of this year.  This feast is not new, in fact it dates back to the 11th century and has been celebrated by faithful Catholics since then.  Please join in and share how you celebrate the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Our Lady of Lourdes

Today marks the anniversary of the Marian apparitions in the Pyrenees Mountains that divides Spain and France. Lourdes is a small town that lies in the foothills of these mountains and it's most famous for Our Lady of Lourdes who visited St. Bernadette a number of times in 1858.  Our Lady announced to the 14 year old Bernadette "I am the Immaculate Conception."  Our Lady's' message of personal conversion, prayer and charity has led many people to Christ.  It's also a place where many miracles have been reported from the spring water.  Every year, countless pilgrims come to pray for grace, conversion and healing.

St. Bernadette had to have been confused and possibly scared when Our Lady first appeared to her but, she must of understood at some deep level, that she needed to obey.  She called her "the lady clothed in the sun."  How glorious and beautiful she must have looked to the young Bernadette.  Thanks to her obedience, the world was and continues to be blessed by the spring waters at the grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes.  I checked out from my local library this book that gives St. Bernadette's famous story.

Happy Feast Day of Our Lady of Lourdes!

Here is a craft I am planning on doing with my first graders tomorrow.  The idea came from one of my favorite Catholic Bloggers Jennifer at Crafolic.  I downloaded the black and white picture of Our Lady of Lourdes HERE courtesy of the ever artistic Charlotte at  Waltzing Matilda.  The black and white free flower templates came from HERE.  The original size was too big so I downloaded a copy and then using my printer/copier, I reduced the size to 72%.  It worked much better that way.  Then it was time to color and paste.  An fun yet easy craft for 6-7 year olds!

Thank you to Jennifer and Charlotte who probably have no idea how much of a blessing their ideas and drawings are to children and adults around the world.  They so generously share their God given gifts with the rest of us!

Feast of the Holy Innocents

Today we remember in the Catholic Church all of the innocent boys from infancy to 2 years of age who lived in Bethlehem and were martyred by King Herod in his attempt to kill the baby who would grow up to be the King of the Jews.

Here is a blessing I found at Catholic Culture that you can do with your own children:

The father leads everyone present in the Our Father. Then he says the versicle, "O Lord, hear my prayer," and all respond, "And let my cry come unto You." The father proceeds with this prayer, taken from the blessing for children:

Let us pray. O Lord Jesus Christ, once You embraced and placed Your hands upon the little children who came to You, and said: "Suffer the little children to come unto Me, and forbid them not, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven, and their angels always see the face of my Father!" Look now with fatherly eyes on the innocence of these children and their parents' devotion, and bless them this day through our ministry. (The father signs the forehead of each child with the sign of the cross.) In Your grace and goodness let them advance continually, longing for You, loving You, fearing You, keeping Your commandments. Then they will surely come to their destined home, through You, Savior of the world. Who lives and reigns forever and ever.

All answer, "Amen."

Then the father says to the children: "May God bless you. And may He keep your hearts and minds — the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit."
